I know why i've been whistling the late great Karen Carpenter's song "top of the world" at work all week, i just can't get it out of my head. Because it's such nice song and Karen had such a beautiful voice.:)

Like most other people here I like lots of different music and the great thing is the older you get the more choice there is. I'm from Ireland so here is a clip combining two of my favourite genres Irish Traditonal and Bluegrass, Ricky Skaggs and the Chieftans from the Grand Ole Oprey. You Tube is great for finding fantastic live performances.

Your right, the older you get to more vast your taste in music becomes
i for one like Irish, Celtic, Bluegrass, Honky tonk, good old R&B,
Even some classical as well as metal.

This video, is a bit extreme, I found this the other day and i love the sound of these guys. True Black metal from Norway. I heard Gorgoroth before i just never heard this song. If it offends anyone i'm sorry in advance. so if you don't like it, turn it off. If you do, TURN IT UP!!
Enjoy.

As I posted in my first thread, I'm mainly a classic rock and blues listener but starting to get into metal more often now. Besides that, I like to get to at least a concert a year (Just saw Journey a couple of days ago).

Anyway, here are some of the artist in my CD collection:

AC/DC, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Boston, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Billy Joel, Jimmy Hendrix, Jonny Lang, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Shannon Curfman, Journey, RUSH, the Donnas, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Stu Hamm, ZZ Top, Steve Vai, Eric Sardinas, STYX, The Darkness, Metallica, Whitesnake and Lita Ford, Orianthi, Billy Squier, plus many others. My current favorite artist is Stevie Ray Vaughan.

This song is quite special to me, because it brings back nice memories of the two sisters i lost and my childhood. It's Terry Jack's "Seasons in the sun".

But after the 70's it's based on individual artists and/or individual songs rather than a wide selection of music types.

P.S. I also like a lot of 50's Rock N Roll :)

Agreed. With the occasional bit of '40s Big Band swing stuff thrown in for variety.
We fifties born and fifty plus guys seems to have similar tastes.

"Wait a minute, baby... Stay with me a while..."

Fleetwood Mac's "Sara" ROCKS!

Others that ROCK: (just a selection, I like a bit of everyting)

Wagner's "Die Walküre"

"O Fortuna" from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana

The Beatles' "Something", "Girl", and a whole bunch of more songs...

Amy Winehouse's "Rehab". Hilarious.

Some of Coldplay... whenever I'm burned out.

Toto's "Africa", "Hold the Line"

Elvis. Nearly anything by the King.

Now, in Spanish:
Arena Hash; Pedro Suárez-Vértiz
Miki Gonzales
All of these are Peruvian.
Now, more Spanish-speakers:
Los Abuelos de la Nada's "Lunes por la madrugada", "Cosas mías", "Así es el calor"
Celia Cruz
El Gran Combo
Tito Puente

And I'm forgetting a looooot.

I didn't know that there were many girls that were really into metal music. My two favorite bands at the moment would probably be Disturbed and Metallica.

People say that all Disturbed does is have David scream into the microphone, which is false. I can completely understand the lyrics, and he can hit notes. A lot of these "Black Metal" groups are just a guy screaming into a microphone, and aren't really music, such as Knives Exchanging Hands.

Bruno Pelletier

Recently I've acquainted with the creativity of Bruno Pelletier. He is the great singer for me. Here are two his songs:

Well you may be right in saying that about Black Metal. Yet that "screaming" lies in its history. But i know what you mean - I not into the raw stuff myself. But there are a much outstanding bands which totally "are music".

But i didnt wanted to start a discussion - just stated what type of music i like, not why.

Here is one of my favorite tunes that brings tears to my eyes...sometimes I think I'm just "Too Sensitive"..but what can you do? :)

To honour St Patrick this is a clip of Sharon Shannon playing live in London two years ago. Sound isn't the best but it is good music.

Gloria

My favourite song of all time is Gloria by Laura Branigan. I recommend everyone go to ITunes now and get it. I mean its just a classic song.

Index-of-Beauty Ben 11-14-2010 01:33 AM

I was a radio DJ for about 3 years and that put me in pop music hell. I have my misgivings about pop/rock music from the last 30 years.

I am also a semi-pro musician - playing out when I can. I sing mostly blues/soul/classic R&B in the way of Motown, Stax, Chess, Vee-Jay etc. Blues is my true bag as far as music. However, when I was younger, I listened to a lot of classic country and hard rock. It was all that was available to me on the radio or in the house. When I moved out to college, blues, jazz, and swing were introduced to me through nightlife. I had always sang in some format and eventually just made the transition into bands at that point in my life. Music has been a good companion when beautiful women have been in short supply.

American blues music - folk blues or country blues as its called in some circles - is the basis for all other American music that's come after it, even country and rap to some degree.

mart 11-20-2010 08:04 PM

Always liked this song even from when i was a kid. Cat Stevens "Morning has broken".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5sSEkZ86ts

Padawan 02-27-2011 06:45 AM

I listen to different kind of music depending how I feel. Everything from metal to classical. Jazz, not so much.

Lately I've been listening to some classic rock. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower and Deep Purple - Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming... Check those out if you haven't already.

This song should be played when I enter the room :p
