Default MySpace Caution

I just checked my email, and had a notice from MyS saying that I had a friend with an upcoming birthday. Rather than use the link provided in the email, I went directly to MyS and checked there--nope no friends are having birthdays anytime soon. Turns out what I received was not from MyS at all but someone phishing presumably for passwords . Good thing I didn't click on the link which almost certainly would have redirected me someplace other than MySpace, so if you have a MySpace account and get one of those notices, I suggest not clicking on a link, but going directly to MySpace to log in there, just to be safe.

Thanks for the information, it's always a good idea to never click on links you randomly recieve in email.

Good advice Geolarson!

I get those damn phishing e-mails ALL the time! Not only Myspace, but also eBay & Paypal too. NEVER, EVER under any circumstances login to ANY site using a link sent in an unsolicited e-mail! If it's one of these "Problem with your account" messages, go to the site directly and then log in to see if there really is a "problem"

Good advice Geolarson2. If in doubt delete it.

I keep the status bar open on all my internet-type windows (it's the bar that's below the window) and I can hold my mouse pointer over any link and see what the URL is before clicking on it. If it doesn't go to where it should then I just delete the darn thing.

Oh man...I've had my Myspace user/pass stolen from phishing a long while back. Personally it's kind of amusing...I mean what the hell do people plan on doing with a stolen user/pass for Myspace, delete the friends or quit one clan and join another. It's all really silly. I guess what they do with stolen profiles is make comments on other people's profiles about joining this survey site or that "work from home" site. What a waste of time!
