Hard-wired instinct I reckon (with some 'learned' influence).
Which woman is the best choice for a mate and to produce offspring? The ones with 'child-bearing hips', which generally correlates to a more voluptuous figure. Also, a woman with more flesh on her says that she is healthy, and able to put on weight - something you want your children to do quickly. Think how many past civilisations have worshipped large breasted goddesses as symbols of fertility, or think of the tribal idols you've seen with the same idea. It may not be relevant reasoning anymore, but the wiring is still there! |

The "hard-wired" answer may well have something to it. But I think that it may also be related to a memory of being breast fed. The breasts which fed us were very large (in proportion to our size at the time), so we're looking for something as delightful to suck on, as that subconscious memory of our mothers' breasts.
